The space

Three bedrooms. A view that guests still talk about years later.

Casa Emilia sits on a small hill above Riva di Solto, on the western shore of Lake Iseo, surrounded by a wide olive grove. The terrace faces the lake directly — Monte Isola and the full mountain wall opposite fill the view from every seat. The light changes through the day. The lake changes colour. Guests who book a few nights come back the following year and bring their families.

The house is spacious and genuinely warm. Two large double bedrooms and a smaller room with bunk beds make it comfortable for six — families with children, groups of friends, two couples travelling together. The kitchen is well equipped: oven, hob, coffee maker, microwave, fridge. A separate living room with TV gives the house proper structure, rather than the squeeze of a studio-sized flat. The terrace has a table, chairs, sun loungers and a parasol.

Private parking is directly at the door. The BBQ grill is in the garden. A restaurant and pizzeria are 200 metres away — guests walk there for dinner and come back to the terrace for the evening light.

There is no air conditioning. The hillside position and the olive grove keep temperatures manageable through most of the season, but in peak summer this can be warm. Fans are available. Patrizia is responsive if you have any concerns on arrival.

Patrizia’s family lives on the floor above. Most guests find this reassuring — she is always available, the building is cared for, the welcome is personal. A small number of guests have mentioned hearing footsteps overhead. We mention it here so it is not a surprise.

The lake is a 10-minute walk downhill from the house. Coming back up is more of a workout. Most guests use the car for the trip down and for exploring the area — the private parking at the door makes this straightforward.

Riva di Solto is consistently named by long-term visitors as the most beautiful village on Lake Iseo — small, authentic, without the tourist crowds of the larger towns. It has a lakefront promenade, a harbour with ferries to Monte Isola, a small swimming area, a bar, a minimarket and several restaurants.
